Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has revealed that its annual events contributed to an impressive $3.55 billion (Dh13 billion) in economic output for the emirate in the previous year, with $2.03 billion (Dh7.45 billion) contributing directly to Dubai’s GDP. These figures were unveiled in the Centre’s 2022 Economic Impact Assessment Report, which highlighted the significant growth in total direct economic output across the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) business services and related sectors, more than doubling to reach $2.55 billion.

As the UAE’s leading event venue and the largest exhibition centre in the region, DWTC played a pivotal role in supporting over 48,000 jobs, representing a remarkable 110% year-on-year increase. This boost in employment contributed to an increase of $651 million in disposable household income.

DWTC hosts some of the world’s largest exhibitions, including renowned events such as Gitex Global, Gulfood, Arabian Travel Market, Arab Health, and more. These exhibitions generate substantial economic activity, benefiting various sectors such as hospitality, retail, aviation, travel, and tourism.

Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DWTC Authority, emphasized Dubai’s attractiveness as a global business hub and the role of DWTC in facilitating connectivity, collaboration, and innovation. Almarri stated that the enduring impact of in-person events underscores the MICE industry’s vital contribution to economic growth and investment returns for all stakeholders.

Almarri further acknowledged 2022 as a milestone year for the global MICE industry and praised Dubai’s ability to sustain its growth momentum, particularly in a period of transformation and post-pandemic recovery. This accomplishment demonstrates Dubai’s capacity to consistently deliver value to business participants.

The report highlighted that DWTC’s 63 large-scale events with over 2,000 attendees experienced a substantial 26% growth and attracted nearly 1.2 million attendees, with an impressive 49% increase in international participation.

The success and economic impact of DWTC’s events underscore the significant contribution of the MICE sector to Dubai’s overall economic growth and its role as a platform for showcasing innovation and driving investment opportunities.
