Egypt has announced that it will be offering a multiple entry visa for the first time and adding more nationalities to its visa-on-arrival eligibility. This was announced by the Egyptian Tourism Minister.

As per the latest reports, a five-year multiple-entry visa will be offered for $700, while a single-entry 30-day visa on arrival will be available for $25, which can now be obtained by more than 180 nationalities.

Referring to this, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa added that among the handful of nations that have been included in the list, China and India also find a place.

The said developments are part of a strategy to boost tourism, which has suffered a setback due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Reports add that the country attracted 11.7 million tourists last year, which is expected to boost that number by 25 to 30% annually, and might likely go up to 30 million by 2028.

Ahmed Issa further added that tourist numbers increased by more than 30% in January and February, as compared to the first two months of last year.

The two leading tourist sources — Russia and Ukraine, however, decreased by 40% and 80%, respectively, while other nationalities have made up for the loss.

He further added that with the decrease of top two tourist sources, they are confident that they will be able to reach or surpass our goal by 2023. Egypt will also make efforts to make entry procedures easier for Moroccans, Turks, Israelis, Algerians and Iranians, the details of which will be announced soon.
