by THE GULF TALK

Travel interest between Saudi Arabia and the UAE has increased massively since the Kingdom removed its travel ban on the UAE. Regional OTA Wego has seen a 1,700 percent increase in flight searches from Saudi to the UAE in the first two days since the announcement.

Wego MD for MENA and India Mamoun Hmedan explained:  “The region was eagerly awaiting this announcement. Saudi Arabia is one of the most preferred destinations for MENA travellers. We expect to see more growth in flight searches and bookings in the coming days.”

Saudi’s travel update

The UAE was removed from Saudi Arabia’s banned country list on Wednesday, September 8. Travel has been suspended between Saudi Arabia and a number of countries due to the pandemic, with flight to and from the UAE having been grounded since Sunday July 4.

According to Wego’s findings, around 50 percent of travellers are looking to travel within a week from the announcement and 60 percent of the people are searching for a short stay around three days. Solos are dominating the type of travellers searching for flights with 80 percent, followed by families and couples.

Wego chief flights officer Dean Wicks added: “Flight searches from the UAE to Saudi Arabia have jumped by 1,000 percent just days after the announcement. Saudi Arabia continues to be one of the favourite destinations for UAE travellers. The massive spike in searches between the two countries shows how much pent up demand there is for travel within the region.”
