Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al Shibani Issues Warning to Iran, Calling for Respect of Syrian Sovereignty and Accountability for Recent Remarks Amid Escalating Tensions

Syria’s newly appointed Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan Al Shibani, issued a strong statement to Iran on Tuesday, urging the country to respect Syria’s sovereignty and the will of its people, rather than contributing to further chaos.

“Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people and the country’s sovereignty and security. We caution them against spreading chaos in Syria and hold them responsible for the consequences of the latest remarks,” Al Shibani wrote on X, though he did not specify which comments he was referring to.

The statement follows remarks made by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a televised address on Sunday, in which he called on Syrian youth to “stand with firm determination against those who have orchestrated and brought about this insecurity.” Khamenei predicted that a “strong and honorable group” would rise in Syria, noting that “Syrian youth have nothing to lose” as their schools, universities, homes, and streets remain unsafe. He concluded by urging them to stand resolute against those responsible for the insecurity in the country.

Syria’s newly appointed Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan Al Shibani, recently issued a stern warning to Iran, urging the country to respect Syria’s sovereignty and avoid contributing to the ongoing instability. The warning came after tensions escalated between the two nations, with Al Shibani emphasizing the need for Iran to honor the will of the Syrian people.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Al Shibani declared: “Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people and the country’s sovereignty and security. We warn them against spreading chaos in Syria and hold them accountable for the consequences of their recent remarks.” While the Syrian Foreign Minister did not specify the comments he was referring to, his statement clearly highlighted Syria’s growing concern over foreign interference in its affairs.

This warning follows a controversial speech by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who addressed Syrian youth in a televised broadcast on Sunday. Khamenei urged the youth to “stand with firm determination against those who have orchestrated and brought about this insecurity.” He further predicted that a “strong and honorable group” would rise within Syria, stating that the youth, having lost so much, have nothing left to fear.

Khamenei’s comments were seen as an attempt to rally Syrian youth against perceived enemies of the Syrian government, but they also raised concerns about Iran’s growing influence in Syria, a country already embroiled in years of civil war.

Al Shibani’s remarks serve as a clear reminder that Syria is focused on reclaiming its sovereignty and ensuring that foreign powers, including Iran, do not further destabilize the country. Syria’s leadership continues to stress the importance of protecting the nation’s territorial integrity and the wishes of its people, as the conflict in Syria remains deeply influenced by external players.

As tensions between the two countries continue to rise, the international community will closely monitor the evolving dynamics between Syria and Iran, particularly in light of the country’s long-standing efforts to navigate its complex alliances in the Middle East.
