Travelling between the UAE and Oman has become significantly more convenient and expedited following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for borderless travel.
Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) and the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) have entered into an agreement aimed at enhancing tourism between Ras al Khaimah and the Governorate of Musandam in Oman.
Adjacent to Ras al Khaimah, Musandam is a sought-after destination for UAE residents and tourists alike, particularly those interested in water adventure sports.
“Through the signing of this MoU, both organizations aspire to elevate cross-destination tourism via collaborative marketing endeavors, enhanced transportation connections, favorable visa provisions for international visitors, and distinctive tourism offerings. This endeavor is bolstered by the close geographical proximity of Ras Al Khaimah and Musandam, our shared Al Hajar Mountain range, and our profound cultural and historical connections, rendering this partnership exceptionally significant,” remarked Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.
“We aim to cultivate fresh opportunities for global travelers to explore both destinations with greater ease,” he added.
The agreement was signed at the World Travel Market London in November 2023.
“Although UAE residents are required to apply for a visa online before arriving in Oman, they also have the option of obtaining a visa upon arrival. A significant aspect of our collaboration focuses on streamlining border crossings. This initiative aims to simplify travel procedures, making it more convenient and time-efficient for residents of both countries to journey between our regions,” Phillips explained in an interview with Khaleej Times.
Moreover, he emphasized that one of the primary objectives of the agreement is to facilitate easier access for international tourists to explore both destinations “within a single journey.”
“This objective is being supported by the development of favorable visa arrangements. Furthermore, the recent approval of a unified GCC tourist visa will further streamline travel across Gulf-member states once implemented, greatly benefiting tourists and enhancing regional tourism, including in Ras Al Khaimah.”
Phillips also disclosed that aligning with the emirate’s objective to solidify Ras Al Khaimah’s standing as a family-friendly destination, they will unveil their summer campaign for 2024 at the ITB Berlin travel trade show in March, featuring a ‘kids go free’ promotion.
Furthermore, he noted that the majority of hotels in Ras Al Khaimah adhere to a ‘children go free’ policy.
“Ras Al Khaimah is an ideal destination for families. Our diverse selection of resorts provides family-friendly accommodations, including specially designed rooms, a range of children’s amenities, vibrant kids’ clubs, multiple swimming pools, splash zones, and expansive beachfront. Apart from our family-oriented resorts, Ras Al Khaimah offers an array of family-friendly activities, from watersports to adventurous experiences in the desert and mountains,” he elaborated.
