Saudi Arabia stated on Wednesday that it will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is recognized along the 1967 borders, including East Jerusalem, and Israeli “aggression” in Gaza ceases. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry reiterated this position through its official X account.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its steadfast position on the Palestinian issue in response to remarks attributed to the US National Security Spokesperson. Affirming the necessity for the Palestinian people to secure their legitimate rights, the Ministry emphasized the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment. This statement was prompted by comments made by White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby, who indicated positive feedback on ongoing normalization discussions between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia reiterated its call for permanent members of the UN Security Council to expedite the recognition of a Palestinian state, emphasizing the need for borders based on the 1967 delineation with East Jerusalem as its capital. This call aims to ensure the fulfillment of Palestinian rights and the attainment of comprehensive and just peace. This reaffirmation follows reports in October 2023 that Saudi Arabia had paused US-backed plans to normalize ties with Israel amid escalating conflict between Hamas and Israeli forces.
