The Zabeel Stables trainer fields nine runners in five races, eyeing the UAE trainer title.

Trainer Bhupat Seemar is entering the upcoming Saturday races at Meydan with high expectations, fielding nine runners across five events, including the prestigious $12 million Group 1 Dubai World Cup. Unfortunately, the number reduced to nine after Killer Collect was withdrawn due to an injury, leaving Seemar with three entries in the UAE Derby.

The spotlight, however, shines brightest on Laurel River in the Dubai World Cup race. The six-year-old, sired by Into Mischief, made a remarkable comeback at Meydan after a 516-day hiatus, initially struggling over 1,200 meters but triumphing convincingly in the Group 3 Burj Nahaar over 1,600 meters during the Super Saturday meeting.

Despite concerns about his stamina for the 2,000-meter distance, Seemar remains optimistic, citing Laurel River’s potential for improvement with longer races. Having showcased exceptional speed and adaptability in previous races, Seemar believes in his horse’s ability to handle the challenge.

Drawn widest among the 12 runners, Laurel River’s tactical agility gives Seemar confidence, as the horse has previously excelled even from wide positions. Transitioning from training under Bob Baffert in the US to Zabeel Stables in Dubai, Laurel River’s journey reflects the collaborative effort between different equestrian entities.

Assessing the formidable competition in the 2024 Dubai World Cup, Seemar likens it to an Olympic final, acknowledging the caliber of horses, jockeys, and owners converging for the event.

In addition to Laurel River, Seemar has entries in other notable races, including the Dubai Golden Shaheen and the Godolphin Mile, aiming for further success on the international stage.

Reflecting on the season and his chances of reclaiming the UAE champion trainer title, Seemar remains focused on each race’s outcome rather than the broader championship picture, prioritizing the satisfaction of his stable’s performance and the success of his owners.
