The African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and United Nations – collectively known as the Trilateral Mechanism – along with the Quad comprising the United Kingdom, United States, United Arab Emirates, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have jointly released a statement concerning Sudan.

The statement acknowledges and appreciates the announcement made by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to prolong the current ceasefire by 72 hours, urging for its complete implementation.

In addition, we appreciate their willingness to participate in discussions aimed at establishing a lasting ceasefire and guaranteeing unhindered humanitarian aid.

This first step in diplomacy towards creating a mechanism for a permanent cessation of hostilities and humanitarian measures aligns with the de-escalation plan proposed in the African Union communique of April 20, supported by the European Union, the League of Arab States, the Troika, and other bilateral allies.
