Spanish Village Achieves Remarkable Voting Speed: Villaroya Sets New Record, Casting Votes in Less Than 30 Seconds

In a stunning display of efficiency, the seven registered voters of Villaroya, a small village located in the La Rioja province of Spain, surpassed their previous record of 32 seconds in this weekend’s local elections. Led by incumbent mayor Salvador Perez, who has held the position since 1973, the village achieved an impressive feat in the electoral process.

Expressing his confidence in the voting outcome, Mayor Perez stated to Spanish media, “I don’t know if I’ll get all seven votes, but it’s almost certain that I will.” The residents of Villaroya, renowned for their exceptional preparedness, wasted no time and promptly cast their votes as soon as the polls opened.

Astoundingly, within a mere 29.52 seconds, Villaroya became the first seat in Spain to complete the voting process, further solidifying their reputation for efficiency. Mayor Perez humorously suggested that the motivation behind their swift voting might have been influenced by a friendly sense of competition with Illán de Vacas, another Spanish village in Castilla-La Mancha, which only boasts three registered voters.

These local elections in Spain are not only significant for Villaroya but are also considered a trial run for the upcoming parliamentary polls scheduled for later this year. The elections encompass twelve of the country’s seventeen regional parliaments and a staggering 8,000 town and city halls, making it a critical moment for political engagement and decision-making across Spain.
