TechCrunch reports that Apple has sent notifications to iPhone users in 92 countries, alerting them to potential mercenary spyware attacks. The message from Apple stated, “Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack attempting to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-.”

The alert from Apple also provided further details about the incident.

The alert continued, stating, “This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously.”

Apple clarified that it refrained from disclosing any details that might aid attackers in evading detection. The company relies on internal data and investigations to identify such attacks, hence withholding specific information to safeguard users.
