Manchester City is on the brink of finalizing a deal to acquire the services of the dynamic winger Savio, currently making waves on loan at Girona, the surprise contenders in La Liga. Savio, a Brazilian talent, joined Girona last summer and has been instrumental in their impressive campaign, posing a serious challenge to traditional powerhouses Real Madrid and Barcelona for the league title.
Girona currently sits in the second position, trailing Real Madrid by two points and holding a six-point lead over third-placed Barcelona. Savio’s noteworthy contributions include five goals and five assists in 23 appearances this season.
The 19-year-old, loaned from French side Troyes, is set to return to Manchester City, with both clubs being part-owned by the City Football Group (CFG). Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Savio’s move to Manchester City is imminent after his pivotal role in Girona’s pursuit of La Liga glory.
Despite interest from Barcelona, Savio has expressed his ambition to play for Pep Guardiola’s side, stating, “I have the goal of playing for City.” His versatility, having played on the left, right, and as a No. 10, adds to his appeal for Guardiola’s squad.
Savio’s journey began in Brazil with Club Atletico Mineiro, making his professional debut at the age of 16. A €6.5 million deal with CFC led to a loan stint at PSV Eindhoven before eventually landing at Girona.
Girona’s manager, Michel, has praised Savio’s talent, likening him to the likes of Vinicius and acknowledging his potential ups and downs due to his age. Junior Chavare, the scout credited with discovering Savio’s talent, describes him as “a hidden gem” with the qualities to thrive internationally and become a star at the world’s top clubs.
