Sotheby’s Auctions, Rare Apple Trainers for $50,000

by THE GULF TALK

A remarkable pair of Apple trainers, custom-made exclusively for employees in the 1990s and originally given away at a conference, are now up for auction by Sotheby’s at a price of $50,000 (£38,969).

These sneakers have never been available to the public before, making them highly sought-after among collectors. The predominantly white leather upper is adorned with the iconic old rainbow Apple logo, prominently displayed on both the tongue and next to the laces, adding to their appeal.

Described as “one of the most obscure in existence,” these trainers’ rarity and resale value are highly emphasized by the renowned auction house.

While the shoes are “new in the box,” it’s important to note that there may be some imperfections, such as yellowing around the midsoles. Nevertheless, they remain a coveted item due to their unique design and historical significance.

Featuring air cushioning in the heel, these trainers come in a US size 10.5, European size 41, or UK size 8.5. The box also includes an extra pair of red laces.

Apple memorabilia has been increasing in value over time, with retro gadgets becoming sought-after collector’s items, commanding high prices in the market. Though some Apple products may not have been successful, items like these rare trainers have become highly desirable among enthusiasts.

In addition to its famous gadgets, Apple has occasionally released clothing and accessories. In the past, there was an Apple collection clothing line featuring the rainbow logo and Macintosh computer imagery, including t-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. The company has also collaborated with luxury brands like Hermès to create exclusive watch straps, showcasing its influence beyond the tech world.

For employees, Apple has even designed special jackets for those working at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, adding to the sense of belonging to the Apple community.
