Rafah, Egypt: Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative to the UN, has officially opened three water desalination plants. The inauguration took place in the presence of various representatives from UN Security Council member states.

These desalination facilities are strategically designed to fulfill the drinking water requirements of the Gaza Strip, forming an integral part of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts to alleviate the hardships faced by the Palestinian population in the region.

This significant development unfolded during a visit by a UN delegation to the Rafah Crossing, organized through the initiative of the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with the Arab Republic of Egypt.

This occurred as part of a visit by a United Nations delegation to the Rafah Crossing, initiated by the United Arab Emirates and in collaboration with the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The installation of water desalination plants in Egyptian Rafah is a component of the UAE’s ‘Noble Knight 3’ humanitarian initiative, which was initiated on November 5. This operation aims to tackle the critical water infrastructure challenges in Gaza, ensuring the Palestinian population’s reliable access to safe drinking water.

The trio of newly established desalination plants is set to furnish clean drinking water to a population of 300,000. By processing approximately 600,000 gallons of seawater daily, these plants will channel the purified water through an extensive network of pipes spanning the Gaza Strip. This initiative holds the promise of significantly enhancing access to safe and potable water for the residents.

The ‘Noble Knight 3’ humanitarian operation, initiated by the United Arab Emirates on November 5, 2023, aims to extend critical assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza. In a robust display of support, the UAE dispatched 105 aircraft carrying essential provisions, including a field hospital, water desalination plants, and over 7,126 tonnes of food, medical, and relief supplies.
