Meta’s Latest Endeavor: Developing a Cutting-Edge AI System to Rival OpenAI’s Best

Meta Advances Development of Enhanced AI System with Greater Power.
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has embarked on an ambitious project to create a new artificial intelligence (AI) system, poised to compete with OpenAI’s most advanced models, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal. This upcoming AI model, expected to be ready by next year, aims to be significantly more potent than Meta’s current offering, Llama 2, which was unveiled as an open-source AI language model in July and is deployed through Microsoft’s Azure cloud services to challenge OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.

Although the details of this planned AI system are subject to potential changes, it is envisioned to enable other companies to develop services capable of generating sophisticated text, conducting advanced analysis, and producing various outputs. Meta intends to commence training this new large language model in early 2024, as per the report.

Meta has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment regarding this development. The race for enhanced AI capabilities in the generative AI market has gained momentum since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, with businesses and enterprises increasingly seeking to leverage AI for improving their operations. In July, Bloomberg News reported that Apple is also exploring AI offerings akin to ChatGPT and Bard, developing its own framework called ‘Ajax’ for large language models and testing a chatbot colloquially referred to as ‘Apple GPT’ by some engineers.
