Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his satisfaction with the 4-0 win over LASK, securing top position in their Europa League group ahead of schedule. Cody Gakpo’s two goals, along with strikes from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah (his 199th for the club), secured a comfortable victory at Anfield.
The draw between Toulouse and Union Saint-Gilloise ensured that Klopp’s team cannot be overtaken at the group’s summit, avoiding the play-off round when the competition resumes in February.
Klopp commented, “Two excellent results for us tonight in the group. It was clear that the defeat at Toulouse made it a bit more tricky, but due to our result and their result, we are now at the top of the table, and that will not change. That’s good, especially given the busy schedule ahead.”
He acknowledged the positives in the game, praising the team’s performance and quality football. However, Klopp expressed his desire for the match to have been sealed by halftime. Despite this, he highlighted the overall positive aspects, including goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s clean sheet ambition and the team avoiding injuries.
“We scored a fourth goal in the last minute or whatever, so the result is top, the performance is really good, and nobody got injured. All good,” Klopp concluded.
