Residents arriving at and departing from Dubai International Airport (DXB) Terminal 3 can now breeze through passport control in just a few seconds thanks to enhanced smart gates featuring facial recognition. While most contactless smart gates at Dubai airport still require scanning passports, the newly updated smart gates at DXB Terminal 3 allow passengers to complete immigration procedures using their optic and facial prints.
To use the enhanced smart gates, residents should first register using their passport or Emirates ID at DXB Terminal 3. For added convenience, visitors to Gitex Global can register for this service at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) stand during the event, which runs until October 20.
The process is quick and simple. Passengers can pass through the smart gate by looking at the green light (camera), eliminating the need to scan any identification document. It’s important to remove any face coverings, such as glasses, face masks, or hats, to ensure a clear scan of the facial and optic prints. However, travelers should have their passport or boarding pass on hand in case they are needed.
While facial recognition is currently available at five smart gates in DXB Terminal 3, the GDRFA plans to implement this technology across Terminals 1 and 2 in the near future. This development signifies a significant step towards smoother and more efficient travel procedures at Dubai’s international airport.
