On Thursday, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) revealed that a total of 153 employers in the UAE have been fined up to Dh50,000 each for allowing their domestic workers to engage in employment with others. Mohre also disclosed that it had taken measures to block the files of these employers as a consequence of the violation, which was uncovered during comprehensive inspections conducted nationwide over the past two months.

In its advisory, Mohre sternly cautioned employers against hiring illegal domestic workers or individuals already employed elsewhere without regularizing their status.

The ministry emphasized that such practices not only constitute a direct violation of regulations but also pose potential health and social risks to employers and their families. Those employers found to be involved in such activities are now subject to administrative penalties, which include being ineligible to apply for new domestic worker permits. Furthermore, their cases will be referred to the Public Prosecution, which has the authority to impose legal and financial sanctions, including fines of up to Dh50,000.

Under a federal decree law implemented in 2022, domestic workers are explicitly prohibited from engaging in employment without proper permits. Additionally, they are not allowed to take on additional jobs without meeting specified conditions and regularizing their employment status. Companies employing domestic workers in violation of these regulations will face similar consequences.

More urged employers to exclusively engage with licensed domestic worker recruitment agencies, which are listed on the ministry’s official website and social media pages. These agencies operate under the supervision of the ministry, ensuring high-quality services for both Emirati and resident families.

Residents were encouraged to report any illegal practices or provide feedback regarding domestic worker recruitment agencies by contacting 600590000. Stay informed with the latest news by following KT on WhatsApp Channels.
